Sleep Better With doTERRA Essential Oils!
These days we have been taught that when we have an issue or problem to go straight to the doctor. We expect them to diagnose and fix us and often when we aren't sent away with a prescription many people ask why not?! We have become heavily reliant on prescription medication which can often have side affects and in many cases is not designed to be a long term solution. According to a 2016 Sleep Health Survey in adults in Australia by the University of Adelaide and the Adelaide Institute for Sleep Health, sleep issues are common and effect 33-45% of adults. Let's break this down, that's almost half of adults in Australia!! The reasons for this were wide and varied across the age groups. Things such as restless legs, snoring, inadequate sleep and sleep apnea to name a few. When sleep is inadequate for one reason or another this can result in a number of issues like poor work performance, lower productivity at work or other, drowsiness on the road and driving risk and more.
In our family when we have any issues to do with sleep, our first point of call is our doTERRA essential oils. If you want it to work, there's no point messing around with inferior quality oils - with doTERRA we know we've got the best.
For me, as a busy mum and business owner what I do need is to be able to go to sleep and fall asleep fast, and I want that sleep to be a deep quality sleep.
I also want my children to go to sleep easily and peacefully and also have a long and sustained restful sleep to allow their bodies to heal, recharge and to provide their emotions some time to rest and relax too.
As I mentioned, we use essential oils as our first point of call for sleep support.

Here are four easy ways to introduce essential oils into your home and life for sleep support.
Diffuse essential oils for sleep support
My top way to use oils for sleep support is to diffuse essential oils in your bedroom. I love the doTERRA petal diffuser as a starting point. It's the perfect unit for a kids bedroom. It runs for 1, 2 or 4 hours and has the option of a night light. Keep the original box it arrives in as this little unit is perfect for travel! A great way to calm down the kids (or adults) when travelling or sleeping away from home, you can create an aromatic anchor with essential oils. Any of the oils mentioned either on their own or in combination would be great to diffuse. Some of my favourite essential oil combinations for sleep support are as follows:
- Lavender, Frankincense and Wild Orange
- Cedarwood and Marjoram
- Lavender and Frankincense
- Lavender Peace
Topical use of essential oils for sleep support
My second favourite way to use essential oils for sleep support is to use them topically. In other words - on the skin. Personally I will often choose an oil such as frankincense, vetiver, copaiba or an emotional aromatherapy oil such as peace or console, add 1-2 drops in the palm of my hand with a carrier oil such as fractionated coconut oil, then rub on the back of my neck. You can also make up pre-made rollerball blends for ease of application of your favourite oils.
Massage for sleep support with essential oils
One way I especially love to use the oils with my children is by making a massage blend. I will often use either Lavender, Frankincense, Vetiver, Lavender Peace, or a combination of these oils diluted in fractionated coconut oil in a dish and give them either a foot or back massage. They love the connection time with me and the gentle downward strokes along with the oils are incredibly relaxing and soothing as they prepare for sleep.
Add essential oils to your bath
Adding essential oils to your bath is a wonderful way to ease your body into rest and prepare for deep and sustained sleep. When adding essential oils to a bath be sure they are suitable for topical use, and always dilute with epsom salts and/or a small amount of carrier oil to disperse in the oil. We love creating bath bombs and bath salts using doTERRA essential oils as these can be easily placed in the bath.
